Why so? To understand this, come out of the box and think outside the decor factor. What do you expect a light to do? You expect it to brighten up the place where it has been installed. If the light has been installed in your patio, you expect it to light up the entire patio, although perhaps not too brightly. If you fix the pendant light in your hall or at your main entrance, you again expect the light to illuminate the entire area with a reasonable brightness.
A slight contradiction in design is worth noting here. One of the more appealing uses of the pendant during the past decade, is in the kitchen. These fixtures are often suspended over a kitchen island or other food preparation area and feature an open-ended bottom through which a soft light is emitted. This is a very attractive feature in the right kind of kitchen because of the even lighting it provides. This type of pendant fixture is also finding its way into other areas of the home.
Ultimately, you don't need to order your lighting online, although this is a highly convenient option and will allow you the most leeway in choice, as often stores have run out of stock of particular lights, especially in the holiday periods. You can also of course go to a traditional store such as Ikea, Sears, Home Depot or Rona to buy your kitchen lighting. This is more appropriate if you absolutely want to see the lighting yourself before you buy it. You might even find that you like a few models that you see in a store and then order them online anyway, because it's more convenient.
